Master confectioner Paul Lembcke opens a small bakery in Hamburg making high-quality bread and baked goods.
The history of today’s Confiserie Mellinia goes back to the year 1915. That is the year in which Paul Lembcke founded a small bakery in Hamburg, which, over the years, developed into a manufactory for high-quality, hand-made confectionery and speciality baked goods. Over the last 100 years, despite several setbacks, our goal of success has been pursued with energy and perseverance. In 2015, the company merged with the Saxon company Freudenberg Dauerbackwaren GmbH to form today’s Confiserie Mellinia GmbH in the town of Grossröhrsdorf. Since then, both traditional companies have combined their strengths and today represent a new and modern epoch in the field of confectionery and baked goods production.
After some difficult and eventful years during the war, son Richard joins the family bakery and re-opens the business in Grande, some thirty kilometres away. He is soon delivering his baked goods to Hamburg in ten vans. He is passionate about producing the finest baked goods he can. The speciality of the firm is its so-called “Herrenkringel”, a wafer-thin puff pastry with caramelized sugar..
The company relocates to Schwarzenbek in Schleswig-Holstein. Richard Lembcke retires and his two sons Holger and Uwe take over the family business. The values of their father and great-grandfather – i.e. the highest quality, traditional craftsmanship and the use of exquisite ingredients – are also shared by the brothers, who keep on the course chosen by their forefathers. Their success proves them right. The plant is expanded eight times in the following years.
The brothers take a lot of time to decide who will continue the company after their retirement in line with family tradition. They finally choose Andreas Coppenrath, who was also born with an innate love of the art of baking and confectionery making. He manages the family bakery Coppenrath in Geeste/Gross Hesepe in Lower Saxony, the sixth generation of the family of the family to do so, and shares the same quality standards of the Lembcke family. Andreas Coppenrath merges the company with Freudenberg Dauerbackwaren GmbH in Grossröhrsdorf, Saxony, near Dresden.
Under the name of Confiserie Mellinia, Andreas Coppenrath starts a new era of confectionery and baked goods production in Grossröhrsdorf. More than 100 different bakery and chocolate products of the finest quality are produced here under the Lembcke brand and exported to the national and international market. Moreover, Confiserie Mellinia also offers tailor-made solutions for business customers in line with their individual specifications and the highest quality standards..
